Vembu ImageBackup v3.7.0

Backup Solution for Windows Servers, Desktops and Laptops

Vembu ImageBackup can incrementally stream backup and initiate instant recovery of complete system with built-in P2V support. By combining the power of application consistent snapshots using Microsoft VSS writer and our scalable & patented block file system, IT Managers can now initiate complete system restore in minutes.

Vembu ImageBackup

Windows Backup Features

Vembu ImageBackup backs up all Windows OS including Windows XP2, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows 2003 SP2, 2008, 2008R2, 2012 and 2012 R2.

Full System or Volume Level Backup – Backs up the entire system including all volumes or you can select any individual volume for backup. Also Vembu ImageBackup supports,

  • MBR and GPT disks
  • Defragmented disks
  • Disks greater than 2TB
  • Windows Servers with pass-through disks
GFS Retention – Provides ability to specify retention policy for merging multiple recovery points via GFS (grandfather – father – son) settings. Enabling GFS Retention will reduce the time taken to restore backed up machines and most importantly reduce the size of merged image files in the storage location. Generally, daily merge is known as ‘son’, weekly merge is known as ‘father’ and monthly merge is known as ‘grandfather’
Incremental with Changed Block Tracking – Vembu Changed Block Tracking (CBT) Driver actively tracks the changes in between incremental backups and backup only the modified blocks (i.e., data) to the BDR backup server.
Forever Incremental – Vembu ImageBackup merges the incrementals based on the number of daily restore points we choose to keep. So IT admins can run forever incremental with only one full backup
Application aware Backup – Application-aware backup process helps to create consistent database snapshots by quiescing the applications using Microsoft VSS
Bandwidth Throttling – It enables the user to limit the bandwidth used by the backup process during data transfer. If you don’t want to spend your entire bandwidth on backups, use this feature to control or limit the bandwidth
Near Continuous Data Protection (CDP) – Vembu ImageBackup allows IT admins to run incremental backup every 15 minutes to offer Near CDP for physical Windows IT data centers.
Backup Windows Settings – If you don’t want to run incrementals during non working hours and weekends, you can enable this feature and specify the time frame

Quick Recovery for Business Continuity

Vembu ImageBackup ensures industry best recovery time objectives (RTO) < 15 minutes by delivering quick recovery features, which helps you to recover entire Windows physical machines including OS and applications, individual files and individual items from Microsoft Applications.

Quick VM Recovery – Instantly restore full Windows Servers and Workstations on any hypervisors such as VMware ESXi host, Microsoft Hyper-V and KVM
Vembu Explorer for Microsoft Exchange – Instantly restore Exchange user mailboxes, emails, contacts and etc. without restoring entire Exchange server machine
Instant File Recovery – Recover individual files and folders instantly from Windows backup without restoring it completely
Vembu Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory – Instantly restore Active Directory objects and GPOs and etc. without restoring entire Active Directory server machine
Vembu Virtual Drive – Instantly recover all the Windows Servers and Workstations running in ESXi host or Hyper-V server by mounting Vembu Virtual Drive as datastore using NFS share or as Hyper-V VM storage using SMB share. It helps to recover the entire data center during major disaster.
Vembu Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server – Instantly restore SQL database and tables without restoring entire SQL server machine

Vembu Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint – Instantly restore SharePoint site connections and documents without restoring entire SharePoint server machine

Options for Disaster Recovery

Vembu ImageBackup also supports the legacy restore options such as Bare-metal Recovery.

Bare-metal Recovery (BMR) – Using Vembu Recovery CD, IT admins can restore backed up Windows Servers and Workstations to the same or different hardware

Volume Level Recovery – Restore any individual volume to the same machine or different Windows machine

Data Redundancy for Zero Data Loss

A dedicated filesystem for Backup data storage and Backup data replication to offsite or remote location ensures the data redundancy and industry best Recovery Point Objective (RPO) < 15 minutes.

Efficient Storage Management – BDR backup server uses its own file system VembuHIVETM to store backup data. VembuHIVETM is an efficient cloud file system designed for large-scale backup and disaster recovery (BDR) application with support for advanced use-cases.
Data Replication to Offsite Data Center – Additional backup data can be transferred to offsite location for data redundancy
Scale-out Storage – Storage targets can be incrementally added anytime without affecting existing backup jobs
Data Replication to Vembu Cloud – Additional backup data can be replicated to Vembu Cloud to get hybrid cloud backup infrastructure

Backup Verification for Data Integrity

The recoverability of the backed up Windows Servers and Workstations are confirmed by running integrity tests. Vembu ImageBackup offers three-tier backup verification check and it avoids data loss after recovery.

Boot check – Backed up Windows Servers and Workstations will be instantly booted as a VM by reading the backup storage targets on Hyper-V or KVM.

Mount check – This process ensures that the backed up disks in each Windows Servers and Workstations are mountable.

Integrity check – Vembu uses Windows check disk utility to check the integrity of each files which are backed up along with Windows Servers and Workstations machines.

VM Converter for Easy Migration across Environments

Vembu ImageBackup offers FREE migration tools as part of backup and disaster recovery solution.

VMware Converter (P2V) – Helps to migrate Windows Servers and Workstations deployed in physical environments other hypervisors to VMware vSphere environment
KVM Converter (P2V) – Helps to migrate Windows servers and desktops deployed in physical machines and other hypervisors to KVM environment
Hyper-V Converter (P2V) – Helps to migrate Windows Servers and Workstations deployed in physical environments and other hypervisors to Microsoft Hyper-V environment
Virtual to Physical Converter (V2P) – Helps to migrate VMs running in VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows VMs running in other hypervisors such as KVM, Xen to physical environment
