VMware Converter (V2V and P2V Migration)

Vembu BDR Suite has inbuilt VMware Converter which helps to migrate the Windows Servers deployed in physical machines and VMs from Microsoft Hyper-V or other hypervisors to VMware vSphere environment with minimal downtime. Vembu developed its own filesystem VembuHIVE to store and manage the backup data. With the help of VembuHIVE filesystem, VHD, VHDX, VMDK, Flat.VMDK and RAW image files will be virtually created for every backed-up physical machines and VMs. So, you can simply move the Flat.VMDK image files to VMware datastore to permanently migrate physical and virtual machines.

How it works

Virtual Machine and Physical Machine migration is made simple with Vembu VMBackup. To permanently migrate VMs from Hyper-V and other hypervisor environments or Windows Servers like Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server, Active Directory Servers and etc. deployed in physical machines to VMware ESXi hosts, you can simply use Vembu VMBackup agent to backup the full image of the Hyper-V VMs or Vembu ImageBackup agent to backup the full image of the physical machines and VMs from other hypervisors. After completing each backup schedule, Vembu creates VHD, VHDX, VMDK, Flat.VMDK and RAW image files virtually for every backed-up physical and virtual machines. You can move Flat.VMDK image file to ESXi host’s datastore to permanently migrate them to VMware vSphere environment.

  • Vembu injects required drivers while creating Flat.VMDK image files
  • Before migrating the physical and virtual machines, you can test the integrity of the Flat-VMDK image files by mounting the Vembu virtual drive as datastore by using NFS share. Once you are satisfied with the VM, you can permanently move the Flat.VMDK to the ESXi host’s datastore
  • Supports migrating all Windows and Linux VMs from Hyper-V to VMware environment
  • Supports migrating all Windows Servers and Workstations from physical and other hypervisor environments
