Vembu Storage Calculator

You can use any SAN, NAS and directly attached storage devices as storage targets for Vembu BDR backup server to store the backed up data. The backup data will be compressed, deduplicated and encrypted on storage targets.

Most importantly, the storage reduction includes both the compression and deduplication. Since the compression and deduplication completely depends on the characteristics of source block (i.e. Data), It may vary from 30% to 70%. Hence, we approximately consider 50% storage reduction for our calculation.

You can use below calculator to identify the storage space requirements for your data center backup needs.

This formula is used to calculate the storage space requirements of VMware Backup, Hyper-V Backup and Disk Image Backup.

Enter the original size of the VMs and physical machines selected for backup. For example: 5120 GB.

Data Change Rate (%) :

Enter the approximate incremental data which will be created by source machine everyday. For example: If 20% of the data from source VMs will be modified/created everyday, enter 20 in above field.

Recovery Points :

Select, how many recovery points you would like to keep. For example: If you want to keep last 1 week of recovery points, you need to select 7 in above field.

Full Backup Count :

Enter the number of full backup, you want to retain in the storage target. For example, if you want to run 1 full backup and forever incremental, you should enter 1 in above field.
