Here is a beginner’s guide to Agentless Hyper-V backup with Vembu BDR:

Preliminary steps to check:

  • User details of client machine (Hyper-V Host) is required – HostName (Ip address/computer name), port number, domain name and password for backup configuration.
  • Update user credentials of configured client machines when there is a change in user details to avoid backup failures.
  • Socket communication for backup between the server and client will be carried out via port 32005.
  • When the client Hyper-V host serves as the backup server itself (a client on server model), then the socket communication for backup process will be carried out via ports 32005 (server side) and 33005 (client side).

Benefits of Agentless Hyper-V Backup:

  • Enables centralized backup management.
  • Improves client machine performance with much less resource utilization for backups. All backup related processes will be carried out on the server side.
  • Server side backup processing reduces complexities and saves more time from being spent on backup configurations.
