Do you have business critical VMs running 24/7? Do you want to keep a replicated copy in case of a disaster? If you have ever wondered how to get started with replicating your VMs, Vembu BDR v3.0 makes VMware replication easy with the simplest options ever imaginable.

How Vembu BDR differs in terms of VMware replication:

Protect Your Data with BDRSuite

Cost-Effective Backup Solution for VMs, Servers, Endpoints, Cloud VMs & SaaS applications. Supports On-Premise, Remote, Hybrid and Cloud Backup, including Disaster Recovery, Ransomware Defense & more!

With Vembu BDR v3.0, we introduced our proprietary method for replication – Vembu Power Replication™.

In this method, when a new virtual machine (VM) is replicated, the size consumption will be that of the whole used space. When changes are being made to the VM, that’s when the role of Vembu UltraBlaze™ is established.

What is Vembu UltraBlaze?

Vembu Power Replication™ uses VMware Hot-Add mechanism for replicating VMs. This mechanism is fully automated and powered by Vembu’s Ultra-Blaze™ technology. Access to datastore (SCSI or SAN) storage is done directly from the proxy VM without VMware host interaction. Using this feature, VMware users don’t require a separate physical machine to replicate the entire ESXi host. VMware administrators can use one of the proxy VM’s and perform 3 times faster replication than our competitors. As a result, daily LAN traffic during backup hours remains unaffected.

Unlike other backup solutions where VMs get replicated on the whole for each change in data, Vembu BDR v3.0 uses an enhanced VMware CBT feature, which tracks the changes that are being made on the configured VMs.

During the next replication schedule the individual changes will be incrementally replicated, thus resulting in saving vast amounts of time, storage size, and network usage.

If an enterprise user configures entire VMs on a host to be replicated, Vembu BDR can save days of processing, with TBs of data and minimal network usage.

How to get started with VMware Replication:

  • Download and configure Vembu BDR v3.0.
  • Login into the Vembu BDR client web-console and go to: Replication → VMware Replication.
  • You will be required to add a VMWare server (provide the requested details and add the VMware server).
  • Return back to the Add VMware replication page and then select the VMware server and proceed with VM replication.
  • Select the VMs to be replicated and proceed.
  • Configure the replication frequency to backup(hourly or daily). You can also configure application aware settings if the VM is an application server(SQL, Exchange) and proceed.
  • Configure the Power Replication™ page with DR(Disaster Recovery) VMware server details as requested. You can add retention count which will help you maintain different time stamps of Virtual machine.
  • Once done with configuration, review the details and get started with the replication process.
