Unable to list the mailbox in Vembu BDR application with the error message “Unable to list the Exchange mailbox users. Make sure sufficient permissions are available for the user account under which Vembu BDR service is running”.

Step 1: Have you created a new user rather than using an existing user?

Step 2: The new user created is a member of Administrators, Domain Admins and Domain User alone and is given full control? In Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click on the new user-created and click ‘Properties’. In the properties dialogue box, click on the ‘Security’ tab. Give ‘Full Control’ for ‘Administrators’ and ‘Domain Admins’. If the ‘Security’ tab is not shown, click on the menu ‘View -> Advanced Features’ in ADUC. Make sure this user is a member of only the following 3 groups: Administrators, Domain Users, and Domain Admins. Do not add any more user groups.

Step 3: Did you create a new mailbox in Exchange Server for the new user that you have created via Active Directory Users and Computers?

Step 4: Have you provided full access permissions to the new user over all the Mailboxes present in all the storage groups? You need to use Exchange Management Shell to accomplish this as specified in the help document available.

Step 5:Have you downloaded and installed Microsoft’s 32-bit MAPI client component? If you haven’t done this step, please do the same from the URL given below. https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/downl...

Step 6: After “ExchangeMapiCdo.EXE” is downloaded, Right-click on it and select the “Run as administrator” option to extract the files packed inside it. Inside the extraction folder location, you can see “ExchangeMapiCdo.MSI” file [an installer file]. Now right click on the “ExchangeMapiCdo.MSI” file and choose the “Install” option [which is the top-most option]. Give “Next”, agree to the terms & conditions and proceeded to complete the installation.

Step 7: Did you save the Exchange Mailbox Configuration by entering the correct profile name in exchange configuration page ( http://localhost:6060/xchangeoptions.sgp?xopt=18). Please click the tooltip icon near each text box for more information on entering the values.

Step 8: Did you use the new account as Vembu BDR service’s logon account? Make sure that the logon account for Vembu BDR service looks like an E-mail ID [backupuser@domain] and not like “domain\backupuser” or “.\backupuser” or in any other form. Use the browse button to select the user account under which Vembu BDR service should run.

Step 9: Make sure about the following things on the profile configuration page:

  • The Profile mailbox name should be specified as the display name of created user.
  • In the case of Exchange server 2007, 2010, 2013, the server name should be a global catalogue server name.
  • “Connect public folder also” option should be checked only if the exchange server has a public folder database.

Note: The below three steps should be followed only if it is an Exchange server 2013 environment.

  • Configure GUID of the Exchange 2013 server name. To get GUID of Exchange Server 2013, execute the following command "Get-Mailbox <backupuser> | fl ExchangeGUID"
  • Configure FQDN name. To get a FQDN name, execute the following command "Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl host"

  • The authentication type should be NTLM. To verify it, execute the following command " Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl AuthenticationMethod "

Step 10. Copy the .dll files from C:\Program Files(x86)\ExchangeMapi to C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SYSWOW64.

Step 11. Copy the mapisvc.inf file from C:\Windows\SYSWOW64 to C:\Windows\System32.
