Cause 1

If Vembu client is unable to get the list of site-collections present under the web-applications configured for backup.

Solution 1

Check if at least one site-collection is available under the web-applications configured for backup. You can check this from the SharePoint Central Administration portal. If no site-collection is found under any of the web-applications, then backups will fail.

Cause 2

If there is no valid site-collection found under the configured web-applications.

Solution 2

Check if all the site-collections present under your web-applications are intact and accessible from the browser. If no valid site-collection is found under any of the web-applications, then backups will fail.

Cause 3

If the STSADM.EXE [built-in utility tool that Vembu client uses to backup SharePoint sites] is not found in its default location, following are the default locations of STSADM.EXE:

  • For WSS2.0/SPS2003 -> C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/60/BIN
  • For WSS3.0/MOSS2007 -> C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/12/BIN

Solution 3

Go to menu: “Administration -> Advanced Options -> SharePoint Settings” page in your client web-console. Verify that “STSADM.EXE” is available in the location specified in the textbox against “STSADM Tool Path [ STSADM.exe ]”. If the STSADM.EXE is not found in that location, then search for STSADM.EXE in your computer. Locate the file and specify that location in the text box meant for “STSADM Tool Path [ STSADM.exe ]” and save the configuration.
