Cause

Receiving “could not initialize” error message when booting VHD via Hyper V.

Solution 1

For booting a 64bit machine in HyperV, you need to ensure that the Intel Virtualization Technology (also known as Intel VT) or AMDV depending on the brand of the processor in the BIOS should be enabled in the host machine. Please note that 64bit machines will not boot without this option.

Refer to the following URL to check the step by step process to enable it, http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs...

Solution 2

If the agent and the backup server machine has a Hyper V running, but has a different processor version, follow the steps given below:

  1. Open Hyper V manager.
  2. Right click the VM > click ‘Settings’ >Processor .
  3. Select “Migrate to a physical computer with a different processor version” option.
  4. Restart the VM.
