Virtual Machine Disks Consolidation Needed in BDRSuite

KB ID: 24
Description:
Virtual machine disk consolidation may be required when encountering the error message "Virtual machine disk consolidation is needed" in BDRSuite. This issue occurs when the redo logs for the disks have not been properly removed during the snapshot removal process, leading to failed backups for the affected VM due to unsuccessful snapshot creation.
Cause:
The error is triggered when the redo logs for virtual machine disks are not correctly removed during the snapshot removal process.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:
1. In vSphere vCenter, right-click on the affected virtual machine (VM) and navigate to Snapshot -> Consolidate.
2. Click on the "Consolidate" option to proceed with the process.
This step will consolidate the orphan redo logs associated with the VM.
Additionally, if you are using ESXi version 6.0 with build numbers 2494585 or 2615704, it is recommended to apply the relevant patch from VMware to address any issues related to snapshot creation. After applying the patch, trigger the backup process again to ensure proper functionality.
