Cause 1: Server Installation(Vembu BDR / ODR)

Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is one of the prerequisites for VembuBDR and Vembu OffsideDR. When the installation of the above package gets skipped, users will be notified about it under the notification wizard of VembuBDR and VembuOffsiteDR web console.

Solution:

Follow the below steps to install the missing dependency - Windows Update ‘KB2919355’:

1) Windows should be up-to-date (Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Update)

2) Install Windows Update - Windows KB Articles: KB2919355

3) Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable package

Note: If you are installing BDR backup server on Windows 2012 R2, make sure Windows 8.1-KB2919442 update is already installed before installing Windows 8.1-KB2919355

Cause 2: Vembu Clients Installation

Prerequisites for the clients (Vembu VMBackup, Vembu ImageBackup, Vembu OnlineBackup, Vembu NetworkBackup) have to be installed. Dependencies of the packages are as below:

1) Microsoft Visual C++ 2008, Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable packages are needed for clients such as Vembu VMBackup, Vembu ImageBackup, Vembu OnlineBackup, Vembu NetworkBackup

2) Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable packages are needed for clients such as VembuIntegrationService and Vembu TapeBackup

If the installation of Redistributable packages fails, the web console of the client will not be proper, and the client installation will be interrupted abruptly to overcome any misbehavior of the product. This might occur if your Windows is not up-to-date.

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installation may also fail if:

1) there is any network issue during client Installation

2) installation of the client was interrupted when it is in progress

3) there is insufficient disk space in OS drive (C:) for the package

Usually, Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable package installation will fail in Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 operating systems.

Solution:

Follow the below steps to resolve the issue:

1) Windows should be up-to-date (Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Update)

2) Install Windows Update - Windows KB Articles: KB2919355

3) Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable package

Note: If you are installing BDR backup server on Windows 2012 R2, make sure Windows 8.1-KB2919442 update is already installed before installing Windows 8.1-KB2919355
