How to Delete Checkpoints for VMs in Hyper-V Manager - BDRSuite Backup for Microsoft Hyper-V

KB ID: 115068
Introduction to Checkpoints:
Checkpoints in Hyper-V serve as snapshots of a virtual machine's state, allowing users to roll back the VM to a previous state if needed.
Steps to Delete Checkpoints in Hyper-V Manager:
Follow these steps to delete checkpoints for virtual machines in Hyper-V Manager when using BDRSuite Backup for Microsoft Hyper-V:
1. Open Hyper-V Manager and select the virtual machine for which you want to delete a checkpoint.
2. In the Checkpoints section, right-click on the specific checkpoint you wish to remove.
3. Click on "Delete" from the context menu to initiate the deletion process.
4. If you want to delete the selected checkpoint and all subsequent checkpoints, right-click on the earliest checkpoint in the tree and choose "Delete Checkpoint Sub-tree."
5. Confirm the deletion by clicking "Yes" on the Delete Confirmation dialog box.
6. After successfully deleting the checkpoint, consider restarting the virtual machine.
Note: Please be aware that the "Delete" action for checkpoints cannot be reversed. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
Backup Considerations with Checkpoints and BDRSuite:
When dealing with backups of Hyper-V VMs that have checkpoints, the following points should be noted:
1. Checkpoint-supported Backups: Backups of Hyper-V VMs with checkpoints are supported for Windows Server 2016 and above, provided you are using BDRSuite version 4.1.0 or above.
2. Upgrade Requirements: To ensure successful backups with checkpoints, you must meet the following requirements:
   a) Upgrade BDRSuite Backup Server to version 4.1.0 or above following the BDRSuite Software Update Guide.
   b) Upgrade the Windows Hyper-V host machine (the one being backed up) to Windows Server 2016 or a newer version.
Following these guidelines will enable smooth checkpoint management and backup operations within BDRSuite Backup for Microsoft Hyper-V.
