If mailboxes are not listed in the web console, it throws unable to fetch mailbox details error message.

Sufficient permissions aren’t available for the user account under which Vembu NetworkBackup service is running.

If you encounter an error while accessing the "Add Exchange Mailbox Backup" page in the Vembu NetworkBackup web console, then follow the steps given below to resolve the issue:

  1. Create a new user with sufficient rights through Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Assign "Full Mailbox Access" permission to that new user.

  3. Use this new account with full mailbox rights as Vembu NetworkBackup service's logon account and restart Vembu NetworkBackup service. Specify the display name of this account [and global catalog server name in case of Windows Server 2008 machines] in the configuration page that opens on clicking the link shown at the bottom of the tree view section, and check if mailboxes are listed successfully.

  4. Add the 'MSPST MS' service by modifying the MAPISVC.INF file. (NOTE: above 3 steps should resolve the issue in listing the Mailbox users in the "Add Exchange Mailbox Backup" page. However 'MSPST MS' service should be added in the MAPISVC.INF file to successfully backup the Exchange users mailbox).

  5. Make sure about the following things on profile configuration page:

  • The Profile mailbox name should be specified as the display name of the created user.
  • In the case of Exchange server 2007, 2010, 2013, the server name should be a global catalogue server name.
  • “Connect public folder also” option should be checked only if the exchange server has a public folder database.

Note: The below three steps should be followed only if it is Exchange server 2013 environment

  • Configure GUID of the Exchange 2013 server name. To get GUID of Exchange Server 2013, execute the following command "Get-Mailbox <backupuser> | fl ExchangeGUID"
  • Configure FQDN name. To get a FQDN name, execute the following command "Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl host"

  • The authentication type should be NTLM. To verify it, execute the following command " Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl AuthenticationMethod "

  1. Copy the .dll files from C:\Program Files(x86)\ExchangeMapi to C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SYSWOW64.

  2. Copy the mapisvc.inf file from C:\Windows\SYSWOW64 to C:\Windows\System32.
