Circular Logging Enabled - Cannot Perform Incremental/Differential Backups

Issue:

When attempting to perform incremental or differential backups, you may encounter an error due to circular logging being enabled for the storage group/databases designated for backup.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Exchange Management Console and navigate to 'Organization Configuration -> Mailbox -> Database Management -> [Select the Database you want to check]'.
  2. Right-click on the selected Database and choose 'Properties'. Ensure that the "Enable Circular Logging" checkbox remains unchecked.
  3. Restart the "Microsoft Exchange Information Store" service.
After switching from circular logging to non-circular logging, it is essential to run an additional full backup. To schedule this, access 'Backup -> List Backup Jobs -> [Select the Backup Name] -> Edit Backup Configuration' and enable the option 'Run additional full backup after saving this configuration'.
