Backup with Checksum: VMware CBT Tracking Failure Issue

Backup Performed with Checksum due to VMware CBT Tracking Failure

KB ID: 105977
Cause:
In VMware backup and replication, you may encounter a situation where the backup is marked as complete with the note that it was performed using checksum. This occurs when VMware's Changed Block Tracking (CBT) mechanism fails. One common reason for this failure is when the same source virtual machine has been configured multiple times for backup or replication jobs, leading to CBT tracking issues.
Solution:
If a virtual machine experiences a CBT tracking failure, the next incremental schedule will be treated as a full backup. Instead of performing a traditional full backup, a 'used block read' operation will take place, and only the changes will be backed up using the checksum technique. This ensures that your backups remain efficient even when CBT tracking encounters issues.
