Cause:

For appware enabled backups Vembu Backup Agent will try to push an appware-guest-tool into the guest machine to ensure application consistency. By default, the tool will use installation location as "C:\Windows". So, If the given user account is not having enough permission to create a folder in the location “C:\Windows” in Guest Machine then the backup will fail with the given error.

Solution:

1) It is necessary to give an administrator account for the appware process during backup configuration if not edit the backup job and give any administrator account.

2) Make sure the given user account is having privileges (without elevated permissions) to create a folder inside “C:\Windows” in the guest machine. If not, provide the required permissions for the given user account.

3) If above checks are satisfying and still the backup is having the same issue then provide elevated privileges for the administrator accounts by changing one of “User Account Control(UAC)” setting in the Guest Machine as follows.

  • Open "gpedit.msc" from Run in the Guest Machine.
  • Navigate to "Computer Configuration" → "Windows Settings" → "Security Settings" → "Local Policies" → "Security Options".
  • Check for the option "User Account Control: Run all administrators in admin approval mode" and Disable it.
  • The above change needs machine reboot, so Reboot the Guest machine.
  • Try to schedule an appaware backup for the Guest machine, the appaware folder will be created at the location “C:\Windows”. If not, please contact support.
