The several scenarios for this issue to occur are mentioned below:

  • This issue occurs if the storage of a VMs configuration files is not accessible.
  • The datastore respected to the VM might be detached from the Esxi host either manually or because of network connection problem.
  • If the Esxi host not able to access the respected datastore.


Make sure the datastore is properly attached with the ESXi host and try to run the backup again and check the backup result.
