The several scenarios for this issue to occur are mentioned below:

  • This issue occurs if the storage of VM configuration files are not accessible.
  • The datastore respected to the VM might be detached from the ESXi/vCenter Server either manually or due to network issues.
  • If the ESXi/vCenter Server is not able to access the respected datastore.


Make sure the datastore is properly attached with the ESXi/vCenter Server and try to run the backup again and check for its progress.
