2019-05-30 08:33:18 -0600 asked a question Full Backup Failed

Unfortunately I have yet another full backup that has failed multiple times. Is the Vembu product not designed to backup to a USB hard drive?

The initial full backup failed with an error I've gotten before, support has told me to simply let the backup run again, which did work. Vembu BDR terminated abnormally bef... (Refer this KB : 101001)

Now the full backup is failing with: SG0198: Unable to send backup details to server 127.0.0.1. An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

I recently introduced a 2nd VM for Vembu to backup, this is when the errors first started.

I'm using Vembu Free Edition. I have been using Vembu to backup a single VM, but I want to add a 2nd VM on the same host.

I just started staging the 2nd VM and was presently surprised that it was included automatically into the backup job, however I'm now getting errors backing up either VM.

For the time being, I have excluded the new VM from the backup job. Below is the report from the backup log from last night. The Virtual Machine 1 is the original VM and 2 is the new VM.

I figured this out, appears to be a bug.

If you click Backup, then List Jobs, then use the More drop down and select Edit, you cannot edit the Retention Policies.

If you View the Backup Job, then select Edit from that menu, you can edit the Retention Policies.

Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think the retention pertained to me since I was only doing one daily backup.

I have tried to edit the backup job and disable retention, but that option is grayed out.

Is there any way to disable retention by editing the job or do I have to delete/recreate the job?

Thanks!

2019-05-17 08:04:43 -0600 asked a question Recovery only showing a few dates

I'm currently using the Vembu Free Edition to backup 1 VM on a nightly basis. I have the backup job configured to keep the last 2 full backups, with retention enabled keeping the last 3 daily merged recovery points (the default and I don't think it pertains to me as I'm just backing up once daily, but please correct me if I'm wrong).

When I try to recover a backup, I'm only showing the current weeks backup, along with the initial full backup. Is there a way to restore from the dates that are not listed?

I looked at the .sbc file stored in the BackupStorageLocation/Repo[number]/[ClientName]/[Backup_Name]/conf folder and I'm seeing the value: MaximumRetention="5", but when I try and restore, I'm currently seeing the last 6 backups along with the initial full backup.

I'd like the ability to restore from every daily backup that happens after the full backup. Is this possible with the Free Edition?

Thanks!

Thanks, I emailed the log files. Will this patch also address the restore selection items? My biggest concern here is when I attempt to restore items from a date that the restore report indicates the VM failed, I can't.

I'm just now noticing that the recovery backup reports are indicating backup failures when the Backup job list reports are indicating a successful backup. I believe the recovery backup reports are accurate as when I attempt a recovery, I'm only given dates that have been successful according to the recovery backup reports. Why are these two reports conflicting?

2019-04-01 07:41:24 -0600 answered a question Backup was aborted as backup Socket was idle for more than 30 mins

I had to change the host to Server 2016 and have not gotten a good backup since. I have adjusted the SGConfiguration.conf values from 1800 to 3600 and back with out any luck.

The dashboard is now complaining about: Vembu BDR server requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable package. Refer this article KB120023 to install Visual C++ 2017 redistributable package manually on the server machine.

That update doesn't apply to Server 2016, but I made sure the appropriate Visual C++ 2017 was installed, but the error doesn't go away.

I will send the logs, but in case anyone else runs into this issue.

I changed the default SGConfiguration.conf values from 1800 to 3600 leaving the other values the default. This is the first time I got a successful full backup and incremental backup.

2019-03-13 09:19:16 -0600 asked a question Backup was aborted as backup Socket was idle for more than 30 mins

I'm trying to backup a large Hyper-V guest. I have the BDR server installed on the same machine that is the host to the VM. My storage pool is a 4TB USB drive plugged into the host. On the initial Full backup I'm receiving the error: Backup was aborted as backup Socket was idle for more than 30 mins. The following Incremental backup failed with error: Server Seems to be stopped during backup.

I have already checked my SGConfiguration.conf file and the default settings exceed the times posted in the forum for another post like mine. <sgtimeoutconfig backupack="1800" authorization="120" fileack="1800" resetprevbackup="60"/>

Thanks for the help!
