2016-03-21 02:12:37 -0500 commented answer Free backup of desktop OS?

@chris9213 It is true that initially both Server and Desktop Physical Image Backup were available for free. Since customers requested standard support for the same and based on the request count for the Server OS image backup support, We had to set standard license pricing for the Server OS backup and set standard support free. For Desktop OSs, the license is still kept as free and in case, if the customer wants support assistance, then they would need to purchase separate support package for the same.

Hi Gowerg,

From your query we believe that you have updated the Vembu BDR server with out any issues and while checking the version of the build from user interface you are getting the error message as mentioned in your query. We believe that the version check happened during back end database update and that is the reason for this issue. Kindly follow the below steps in your environment and update us the status.

  • Restart Vembu BDR application
  • Clear browser cache and try login the console and check the build number.
  • If the same issue reoccurs. Please do check the permission for Vembu BDR application running user to restart the Apache instance and provide necessary permission for the user.

From your query we believe that your backup server is crashed and you are rebuilding the server in newer instance with the backed-up data from crashed server. Regarding the above kindly follow the steps given in the knowledge base link given below.

https://www.vembu.com/support/article...

Please note that the volumes added in older and newer repository should have the same data position(i.e the data should be placed in the volume names same as in the older server). If the volumes name varies in the newer server the same needed to be updated manually in the database with the assistance of the Vembu tech team.

Please do check the same and get back to us for further assistance on the server rebuild process.

2015-10-20 05:55:28 -0500 edited answer Problem to add a network share

Hi,

Adding Network drive option is specific designed only for VMBackup instance installed in windows servers. In case if a network drive needed to be added as additional storage repository in Linux environment (or) virtual appliance then we need to mount the drive in the Linux machine by adding the drive mount details in fstab. Once the drive is added in the fstab the drives will be automatically listed in the

Management -- > storage management page.

To add external drives/disks (NAS/SAN/Virtual Hard Drive) as your storage location on Vembu Repository, we request you to mount that drive to your Ubuntu backup server appliance(Physical/Virtual).Follow below steps to mount the drive,

Step 1:

Get the list of HDD by running command “cat /proc/partitions”. Note the newly added volume. Example : /dev/sdb1

Step 2:

Format the newly added volume. Example: mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 (Choose the file system type as per your wish)

Step 3:

Create mount point Example: mkdir /storage

Step 4:

Mount the volume to that mount point. Example: mount /dev/sdb1 /storage

Follow below steps to add the mount point in “/etc/fstab” to avoid unmounting during system reboot,

Step 1:

Open “/etc/fstab” in any editor. eg: > vi /etc/fstab

Step 2:

Make the entry for the new volume in end of the file. defaults 1 2
Example: /dev/sdb1 /storage ext4 defaults 1 2

Once you have done that you will be able to add the storage in the backup server console through Server Management — > Storage Management

Please check the updated answer for further steps to fix this issue

2015-09-11 14:58:26 -0500 answered a question The VMware backup fails with the error message Failed to create snapshot.

HI Justin,

Regarding your issue kindly check the vsphere log file available in the VembuBDR client instance installation location under VembuBDR_home\log folder. Check the exact error that is showing in the log file during the time period of backup failure. Also try creating snapshot manually for the VM machine from Vsphere client. If the manual snapshot fails then check the vmware.log on the virtual machine and update us for further proceedings.

Updated answer:

Normally this issue will occur in case if the size of the snapshot file being created is larger than the available free space on the datastore where the virtual machine is located. In this case, the ESX/ESXi host cancels the operation and displays the mentioned error in the log. To resolve this issue, compare the size of the virtual machine's disks with the maximum supported VMDK size on the virtual machine's datastore and If the virtual machine disk size is larger than what the block size of the datastore supports, then try the below options to fix the issue.

  • Change the working directory (workingDir) of the virtual machine to a datastore with sufficient block size to support the virtual machine's disk size.
  • Change the location of the virtual machine's configuration file. To move the virtual machine's configuration file, you can use Storage vMotion or cold migration with relocation of files.

Note :

Also ensure that the disk size limitations for configured block size of the datastore have not been exceeded.

2015-09-10 08:22:11 -0500 answered a question Vembu BDR 3.0 client

Hi Mattias,

Normally the error "error in parsing xml for VMware configuration settings" will be shown in User Interface in case if the installation is not properly done with administrator rights. Kindly reinstall the VembuBDR client instance and also make sure that the default ports 443 and 902 is opened in the Esxi server for VMware backup progress. Please check the above case and get back to us for further assistance at vembu-support AT vembu DOT com.

2015-09-02 16:55:22 -0500 answered a question there were no modified files

The reported message will be shown in user interface if no files were modified in the backup source location (or) files to be backed up are from a mapped drive. VembuBDR client running on Windows OS can use the Windows Directory Monitoring to get a notification when a file configured for backup is added/deleted/modified. These notifications are saved in the database to create the list of files that need to be backed up during the next backup schedule. However, notifications are not sent by the Directory Monitoring when the files modified/deleted/updated are in a mapped drive. Therefore, VembuBDR will not be able to identify the changed files when Automatic Directory Monitoring is enabled for backup of files from a mapped drive. In order to fix the issue kindly follow the steps mentioned in the forum link given below and proceed further.
