Vembu BDR supports image-level backups of virtual machines hosted on an ESX/ESXi host with SAN or iSCSI storage. Virtual machines can read data directly from shared VMFS LUNs, so backups are very efficient and do not put significant load on production ESX/ESXi hosts or the virtual network.

To know more about the transport modes in Vmware backup please refer the below blog

Normally if the Vmware host and Vembu BDR server reside in the same network then the LAN transport mode will be used for backup. From your post we understand that your backup server is in offsite location so the backup will need WAN setup to transfer the data.

Thank you for reaching out Vembu Community Forum.

Please be informed that as per the design for Free Edition Backup there is no retention policy available. Also you need to manually delete the old backup data from the storage location to clean up the Storage. However please be informed the deleted backup time stamp will be still shown in the restore page and please choose the correct time stamp for the available data to perform restore.

Note: Please dont delete the latest full backup and delete only previous time stamp data.

  1. Could you please check whether the MySQL service is running on your Vembu OffsiteDR server
  2. Check whether you have enough space on the Vembu OffsiteDR installation location and storage location
  3. Check whether you have "mysql.sock" file available in /tmp/ folder.
  4. Check whether the odbc.ini file matches with "<vembuoffsitedr_home>\conf\SGConfiguration.conf" file parameters like DSName,UserName,Password,DatabaseName and HostName.
  5. Also please execute the below command for test connectivity to mysql server ‘isql –v [dsn name] [user name] [password]’ and make sure its works fine

After following the above check whether you are able to login to webconsole successfully.
