2019-11-25 09:56:32 -0500 answered a question Vembu backups with Hyper-v Replication

Yes, you are right. You can backup replica VMs to reduce the load on the production host, and backup production VMs in case you have any applications like Exchange running on them.

Note: Currently, Vembu doesn’t support backing up VMs that have checkpoints in Hyper-V servers earlier than 2016. Although, we support backup for VMs with checkpoints in Hyper-V 2016 from our latest release Vembu BDR Suite v4.1.0.

In order to assist you with this, kindly send us the log folder of Vembu BDR Server as a ZIP to vembu-support@vembu.com. One of our support engineers will analyze the log files and get back to you shortly.

You can find the log folder at /home/vembubdr/Vembu/VembuBDR/log

2019-09-16 10:04:30 -0500 answered a question Best way to pause Vembu BDR

Backup Window option prevents you from running backups during a set period. But this feature is not available in the Free Edition (available in Standard & Enterprise Edition)

However, to achieve your requirement, you can use scripts to stop the “VembuBDR” service and start the service once you complete your export jobs.

Also, the backup jobs which fall on that particular window time will be resumed only during the next scheduled time of backup jobs.

2019-08-23 05:32:56 -0500 edited answer BMR - Bare Metal Restore - How to add drivers to ISO

You can bundle the necessary drivers to the Vembu Recovery CD ISO using 'Additional Driver' option available in VembuBDR Recovery CD Builder. Copy all the drivers to a single folder, then browse and select the folder containing the drivers in the ‘Additional driver’ option.

Now click Build to start creating ISO file. Once done, the ISO file will be available in the Target location you have entered.

2019-08-01 06:21:31 -0500 answered a question Missing backup delete option in Vembu BDR

From the screenshot, we observed that the full backups are partially completed.

As per our design, the option to manually delete full backup is not supported to delete partially completed full backups. Only if the latest full backup is completed successfully, old ones will have delete icon.

So in this case, we recommend you to contact our support (vembu-support@vembu.com). They will provide you with the fix to perform the deletion.

2019-07-31 06:29:48 -0500 answered a question Missing backup delete option in Vembu BDR

Generally, the steps listed in this KB article will allow you to delete the older full backups if you have more than one full backup for that particular backup job.

To analyze your case further, kindly provide us the details and screenshot of the following:

  1. Did any error occur while deleting older full backups?
  2. Navigate to Recovery page and click on the More option alongside the respective backup job in which you wish to delete full backups. Check whether Full Backup Delete option is available.

Further, the backup server version you are using is v3.9.0. To upgrade to the latest v4.0.1, you need to upgrade your server from v3.9.0 to v4.0 and then to v4.0.1.

Kindly refer to the software update guide for more details.

2019-07-03 02:37:32 -0500 answered a question How to backup more than 3 VMs with free edition?

Vembu BDR Suite Free Edition supports Unlimited VMs backup.

Before you back up, you’ll get a pop up with two options:

  • Full-Featured version

  • Limited-Featured version

The Full-featured free edition is available only for the first 3 VMs. To avail this, you need to configure backup for 3 VMs in a single backup job. After choosing the full-featured edition, the pop will not appear again. Later, the backup jobs configured for rest of the VMs will be of limited features.

If you’ve chosen Limited-feature option, you can configure any number of VMs in a single job or you can even configure multiple jobs. Further, the pop up appears till you choose a full-featured edition.

2019-06-13 08:19:21 -0500 answered a question Drive is missing of Default_Repo

This issue is related to UI in our older version of Vembu BDR and we've handled it in our latest release of Vembu BDR Suite v4.0.1.

To avoid this issue, we recommend you to upgrade your existing installations with v4.0.1.

Refer "Vembu Software Upgrade Guide" to upgrade your existing setups.

However, the backed up data will remain in the configured backup repository and the backup will run fine. Since the current backup repository (Volume K:/) have insufficient space, add new storage volumes to have successful backups.

2019-04-27 01:53:47 -0500 answered a question Next button not working on Recovery page

Normally, this UI issue might occur due to browser cache.

Please clear the cache on your browser or login to your BDR console in incognito mode and then try restoring your backups.

2019-04-25 09:31:40 -0500 answered a question I have change the IP address of vembu server and all clients.

You can follow the below steps to create the batch file for updating the new IP address.

Step 1: Save the following content as a batch file (like serveripchange.bat)

@echo off
Title: To update the new IP address of Backup Server!
echo Welcome!
set oldserverip=%1
set newserverip=%2
set installationpath=%3

echo Installation path :: %installationpath%
echo old server ip :: %oldserverip%
echo new server ip :: %newserverip%

cd /D %installationpath%
bin\VembuNetworkBackup.exe MigrateServerName %oldserverip% %newserverip% All

Step 2: Execute the batch file either by passing arguments or by replacing the values directly in the file.

Option a: Passing arguments

serveripchange.bat <oldserverip> <newserverip> <installationpath>

Example: serveripchange.bat 192.168.100.45 192.168.100.80 "C:\ProgramFiles\Vembu\VembuNetworkBackup"

Option b: Replace the server details and installation path in the batch file and then run 'serveripchange.bat'

Example:

set oldserverip=192.168.100.45
set newserverip=192.168.100.80
set installationpath="C:\Program Files\Vembu\VembuNetworkBackup"

You can purchase and apply the license to servers directly from your Vembu Portal account. You can choose the subscription/perpetual licensing model based on your requirement.

Hi,

We do not insist or suggest any specific NAS as the storage repository to our customers. Although we have come across a few of our customers using the NAS devices like Qnap NAS & Synology NAS.

2019-03-08 02:13:38 -0500 answered a question Error While Accessing Configuration File for Backup

Hi Brian,

The above error message is shown - If your Hyper-V host is of 2016 and VM Configuration version is lower than 8 [Select the VM & you can find the VM configuration version at the lower pane of Hyper-V host.]

In this case, we have two option for you:

  1. We will provide fix exe to backup VMs with lower versions. (Contact our support team through vembu-support@vembu.com to get the fix exe)
  2. Update your VM Configuration version.

To perform VM configuration update:

a) Shut down the virtual machine in Hyper-V Manager

b) Right-Click on VM - Upgrade Configuration Version
(If this option isn't available for the virtual machine, then it's already at the highest configuration version supported by the Hyper-V host)

c) Once VM upgraded, turn on the VM and trigger the backup.

Refer this link for detailed information on VM update.

If the above solution doesn't resolve the issue or if your Hyper-V is not running on 2016, kindly send the Hyper-V host OS details and zip the log folder of the VembuBDR, VembuIntegrationService and send an email to vembu-support@vembu.com

Location: [Installation Location]\log

In VembuBDR send us the below log folder

 Example: "C:\Program Files\Vembu\VembuBDR\log"

In Hyper-V Host send us the below log folder

 Example: "C:\Program Files\Vembu\VembuIntegrationService\log"
