Servers Deactivated

Vembu-NetworkBackup

All but one of my servers have been deactivated after the trial. The status is showing "Over-Consumed". I'm looking at the paid vs free webpage here... https://www.vembu.com/vembu-bdr-suite... and see that under the "Physical Windows Server Backup" section, the "Backup disks more than 2 TB" is checked and also it actually says "Physical Windows Server Backup". I'm reading in this forum where admins have said that network backup is only free for desktops...what gives???

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out Vembu Community Forum.

Please be informed that free license is applicable only for Workstation backup. As you have configured backups through Server machines the backups are failing with License issue. You can convert the Vembu BDR server as Free Edition server to perform backup as full backups to your client backups.

To opt for the free version, please register your Vembu BDR server with our Portal and then click on the bottom left notification icon to activate "Vembu Free Version" (if not registered).

Now perform run license check once by navigating Management->Server Management->Server Registration page from Vembu BDR web console and click on the "Run License Check" button to activate free edition.

Also, note that once Free edition is activated you need to create a new backup schedule to take advantage of CBT. During the new backup job creation you will be prompted to select one of the below options to proceed with backup configurations :

1.Full featured free edition 2.Limited Edition.

Note : Maximum of 3 VM’s can be selected in the one Full featured free edition backup schedule so that first backup will be full backup followed by the incremental. In order to opt for Full featured free ednition backup you need to delete exisiting backup and reconfigure it with required 3 VM's.

In the link to the document that you provided, it specifically says "Physical Windows Server Backup"...The word SERVER is in there, no where in that entire document does it state anything about limiting backups to desktops or workstations only.

Hi, As per the Free edition design you can perform free full backups for Physical Windows servers, VMware and Hyper-V backup. The file backups configured will still fails as Windows Server File/Application backups are not available for Vembu BDR free edition. If you wish to perform File backups for your Servers you need to purchase the license. If you wish to perform Image backups as full backups in each schedule (VMWare, Hyper-V, and Physical Disk image), we request you to convert the Vembu BDR server as Free edition server. However, there is no free backup option for Server file and application backups with Vembu BDR free edition. In order to perform File/Application backups you need to purchase License and in the Licensed version ther is no license needed for Workstation backups.

Hi,Further to our previous reply, by using Vembu BDR Free edition, you can perform image level backups for Windows Server/Desktops, VMware VMs & Hyper-V VMs (Disk level/VM level backups) and file/application level backups from Windows Desktops & Workstations at free of cost. In case of file/application level backups (Vembu NetworkBackup) for Windows Servers, you have to purchase license from Vembu Portal(portal.vembu.com). The page which you have mentioned actually refers to the Windows Server Disk Image backup, we will clearly mention the same on that page shortly.

here is how
