I would like to backup another apps data which runs on the same server as Vembu BDR

yes, you can install both VembuBDR server application and client application at the same machine.Since you are installing both server and client instance at the same machine, Kindly make sure that the VembuBDR installed backup server machine is having enough physical resources to run with out any issues.
