Trim size of backup storage when only 1 single full backups exists

We have Vembu Free Edition 3.9.1 [3912018060720] and it was configured back in 2018 to perform a single backup and has been performing incremental backups ever since. This has been eating away at disk space and we are now getting very short.

I would like to know the best way to remove some of the data, we only need to have the last year available but I don't want to manually delete any files in case this stops us performing an restores.

Make sure you have enabled the retention policy and configured it. You can confirm the retention policy of your backup jobs by viewing the backup configuration. Go to Backup > List Backup Jobs and click on the View icon corresponding to your backup job to review the retention configuration. If the retention is disabled, you can edit the backup job, enable the retention policy, and configure it.

Vembu BDR Suite v3.9.1 supports only 99 daily merged recovery points in the basic retention while the Vembu BDR Suite v4.0 & above supports up to 999 daily merged recovery points. Please refer to the Software Upgrade Guide if you would like to upgrade to the latest version.

If you have configured additional full backups, you can delete the older full backups and save space on your storage repository. Go to the Recovery page and click on the Reports icon corresponding to your backup job. In the report page, select Full Backups in the drop-down list found on the right corner of the page and delete the older full backups.

Note: Deleting the full-backup will also delete its corresponding incremental.
