Vembu backups with Hyper-v Rep...

We are using hyper-v replication on 2 hyper-v hosts, so what are best practices with VEMBU? Should you be backing up the live VM, or the replica VM? The replica would be perfered as it would reduce the load on the production host. But in the case of Exchange server it seems to be an outlier, as we are using VEMBU to handle log truncation, so I guess in that case it would have to be the live VM, correct? Thanks for any help and advice in advance.

Yes, you are right. You can backup replica VMs to reduce the load on the production host, and backup production VMs in case you have any applications like Exchange running on them.

Note: Currently, Vembu doesn’t support backing up VMs that have checkpoints in Hyper-V servers earlier than 2016. Although, we support backup for VMs with checkpoints in Hyper-V 2016 from our latest release Vembu BDR Suite v4.1.0.
