im trying to run a backup job from 1 windows server to another and i get a error that i cant configure/schedule the backup job from the vembu agent because im on the free edition
i was told that cifs backups were able to be done in the free edition?
From your portal account, we noticed you have configured file level backup for your server operating systems.
The file backup for the server operating systems is not applicable in Vembu BDR Suite Free Edition. However, you can backup unlimited Windows and Mac workstations in the free edition.
You need to purchase the Vembu NetworkBackup license for the file servers (for server operating systems) to continue with the backups.

Vembu NetworkBackup is free for desktops and laptops (Operating Systems like Windows 8 and Windows 10). But, if you want to backup the files or applications from Windows Servers (Operating System like Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016), you need to purchase file server or application licenses.

You can purchase and apply the license to servers directly from your Vembu Portal account. You can choose the subscription/perpetual licensing model based on your requirement.

I'm sorry, but I see no such restriction here. It specifically says that you can back up servers in full image backup or selected files/volumes in the free version. What am I missing here?
The content you had posted (edition comparison screenshot) belongs to Vembu ImageBackup (Windows Server Backup). You can backup the entire disk or selected volumes at image level using the free edition of Vembu ImageBackup.
But the above discussion was about the Vembu NetworkBackup (File & Application level backup). It is free for desktop operating systems (workstations), but you need a license to backup the files & folders from server operating systems.
