Just considering testing Vembu BDR (3.x) for my environment.

I'm confused about the Physical backup capabilities. Are physical hosts (PCs or Windows Servers, specifically) able to be recovered quickly using a VMDK or similar VM architecture? Or is that only used when backing-up existing virtual machines?

What I'd like to understand are the restore options for a physical client (again Win7 or Win2008 or Win2012) if a disaster-recovery scenario occurs and/or the original, physical client is unavailable.

Can I basically boot a backed-up laptop as a VM in a DR scenario? Or what are my recovery options for those physical backed-up clients?

Thanks for considering VembuBDR 3.x for evaluation.

The VembuBDR 3.x application is specially designed to take image backups of both physical and virtual machines environment at your data center. The VembuBDR backup server is integrated with our patend VembuHive technology, where you can boot the backed up image machines in virtual environment like Hyper-v and KVM during DR scenario with persistant boot option enabled.

As mentioned in your post, If You backed-up physical(Win7 or Win2008 or Win2012) clients to the backup server and during DR scenario the machines can recovered in hyper-v or KVM enviroment as virtual machines in fraction of seconds using instant boot option. In case if you are having Vmware ESXi server environment at your data center, then during DR you can directly recover it to any Esxi server you desired to recover just by provding the IP address and cerdentials of the Esxi server
