Are there known issues for FLR on virtual machines with dynamic disks (gpt)?

Vembu-VMBackup

Doing a test recovery I found that I'm not able to recover data from the backup. Even though I receive everytime the backupjob took place a Successful completion of the backups. When trying to restore file I get this message:

Error while listing VM(s)Disk(s)Volume(s). FLR is not supported for other than NTFS File System.

I'running vembu on a Windows Server 2012R2 HyperV and the virtual machine is also a W2k12R2. When I turned my disk back from dynamic to basic, I than can successfully restore the data for backup taken after this change. Is anyone familiair with this issue? thanks!

For VMware and Hyper-V backups, only the Basic disks and Simple volume of Dynamic disks are supported for File-Level Recovery(FLR), other types of volumes such as Stripped, Spanned, Raid, and Mirrored are not supported for File Level Recovery. This is applicable for both MBR and GPT partitions.

There is no restriction on file-level recovery for the Disk Image backups taken using Vembu ImageBackups

hi Nivas, Tnx for your reply. I've checked everything once again en I can assure you that I'm configuring my disks dynamicaly as simple volumes. and yet I still can't get any data back with a FLR. I guess I have to look further en do more research on this issue.

We have checked this case internally and the File Level Recovery(FLR) is working perfectly for the simple volumes of Dynamic disks.

In order to assist you with this, send the log folder of Vembu BDR Server as a ZIP to vembu-support@vembu.com

You can find the log folder at < installation Location >/vembu/vembuBDR/log For Example: C/program files/vembu/vembuBDR/log
