Is there a recommendation for backing up a domain controller using Vembu BDR?
I'm currently backing up a DC using this software and I've selected the machine to be Appaware however after every backup, I receive "Backup Completed Successfully (Appaware Folder creation failed inside guest machine)". The latest version of VM Tools is installed and running on the machine and the account being used for the backup is an Enterprise Admin account.

This message will be shown if the provided credential (guest machine user account) doesn't have enough privileges to create the App-aware folder inside the windows folder (in OS Partition). Also, the same problem might occur, when the user account requires admin approval due to granular UAC settings (even if the account in an administrative group).
To confirm this please check the Admin Approval options by logging in to the guest machine with provided credentials. Please follow the below steps to verify it.
1) open "gpedit.msc" from Run.
2) Navigate to "Computer Configuration" → "Windows Settings" → "Security Settings" → "Local Policies" → "Security Options".
3) Check the value of the key "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account"
If "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account" is enabled, then the permission related issue will occur, when we are triggering the App-aware executable through VMware API.
Please check the above and update us.
Thanks for the response. I have tried it under many accounts including my own and still receive the same message. This is only happening on the DC I'm trying to backup, not the other servers. I have confirmed on the DC that the local group policy "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account" is Disabled. Any other suggestions?
