1st Try - Errored out

I am looking for a backup solution that's easy to use and reliable. I am trying the Vembu BDR backup solution for the very 1st time. I configured the backup procedure and I attempted to try to do a full image backup for my test VM for the very 1st time. It errored out almost immediately with an error of, "Problem while backing up the data in Client Side. Error: There were errors while trying to backup Virtual Machines configured for backup".

The vSphere hosts are running version ESXi 5.1 U3 and fully licensed. The test VM (Backup_Eval) OS is Windows 2012 R2. The configuration is pretty straight forward and non-complex. I have googled this error and the solution is not consistence with my scenario.

Hopefully, I can get an answer to this question as my trial version is only for 30 days. Please let me know what you need from me on this end to point me to the right direction.

In order to assist you with this, please send the log folder of Vembu BDR Server as a ZIP to vembu-support@vembu.com.

You can find the log folder at < installation Location >/vembu/vembuBDR/log For Example: C/program files/vembu/vembuBDR/log

Our support engineers analyzed the log files provided by you and noticed that the VM Backup is failed with the error "Creating a snapshot for an ESXi/ESX virtual machine fails with the error: File is larger than maximum file size supported".

VMWare backups will fail with above error message if the size of the snapshot file being created is larger than that of the available free space on the datastore where the virtual machine is located. In such case, the ESX/ESXi host cancels the operation and displays the mentioned error in the log.

Please refer the below KB Articles regarding the error and resolve the issue by following the steps given in the Articles provided by Vembu and VMWare.

You can also verify the details by performing a Manual snapshot on the affected VM by performing the below steps.

Select Inventory > Virtual Machine > Snapshot > Take Snapshot.
Type a name for the snapshot.
Type a description for the snapshot.
Remove the Snapshot the virtual machines memory check box to capture the memory of the virtual machine.
Select the Quiesce guest file system (Needs VMware Tools installed) check box to pause running processes on the guest operating system so that file system contents are in a known consistent state when you take the snapshot.
Click OK.
If the Snapshot is successfully created please delete the Snapshot from the Snapshot manager.
