Free Edition CDP
On "https://www.vembu.com/vembu-vmbackup-pricing/ " it shows that I can use CDP and forever incremental for up to three VM's but it is not letting me setup a single VM to apply those options to. How do I accomplish this?

For availing the Full-Featured Free Edition, you should configure the backups for all 3 VMs(for those you are likely to avail the free edition) in a single backup job.
It seems that 2 of your VMs are already running in the Full-Featured Free Edition if you wish to avail the same for 3rd VM, Just edit your existing backup job which is already running with Full-Featured Free Edition and add the 3rd VM to the same backup job.
As of now, for availing the Full-Featured Free Edition, it is necessary to configure backups for 3 VMs in the same backup job, but in our future releases of Vembu BDR Suite, you will likely to avail this even if they are from different backup jobs
I can't tell which ones have the license applied and when attempting to reschedule a job I get "Changed Block Training (CBT) based incremental backup is not supported in Vembu Free Edition. So, it will schedule the full backup immediately. Do you want to proceed?"
We need the dump of the database to find the name of the Backup Job on which you enable Full Featured Free Edition.
1.If you are running Vembu BDR Suite v3.9.0, Use the below command to create dump the main database and send the same to vembu-support@vembu.com
.
pgdump.exe -b -U < UserName > -n public -f < OutputFile_Name > < DatabaseName >
For Example: C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.6\bin>pg_dump.exe -b -U postgres -n public -f "C:\PgDumpNew.sql" SGDatabase
You can find the details of UserName, DatabaseName and Password at the Database tag of SGConfiguration.conf file (< Installation location >/conf/SGConfiguration.conf)
2.If you are running Vembu BDR Suite v3.8.0, please send the zip of sgclient.db file to us at vembu-support@vembu.com
You can find sgclient.db file at C:\Program Files\Vembu\VembuBDR\data\sgclient.db
It seems you already used free edition in another backup server, and that old backup server was deactivated and decommissioned. We removed the details of your older backup server form Vembu portal, and now the new backup server and free edition backups are working fine.
From our upcoming portal upgrade, you will be able to remove your decommissioned backup server entries directly from your Vembu Portal account.
I only have 3 protected VM that started on trial and I applied the free edition license. These were working and running in incremental backups and when the trial expired, at which time the backups just stop and throw errors until you apply the free edition license. I determined you also need to edit and reschedule each job after the with the license change. I also saw the dialog appear during the backup job edit "Changed Block Training (CBT) based incremental backup is not supported in Vembu Free Edition" which is inconsistent with the feature comparison which shows CBT is supported in the free edition for up to 3 VMs. ( I believe that is 3 VM per account or registered email, not per site. App is backing up small servers with one or two VMs per site).
It appears CBT is not at all supported in the free edition, so you only get full backups and all the time space they require. Licensing is not very expensive so might try that just to have a longer trial as I setup test restore scenarios and continue testing.
So my question is: are others seeing the same issue with no CBT in the free edition and this not not about over consuming licenses?
I also seem find minor bugs but no show stoppers, but I have not comprehensively tested grandular or full restores, bare metal, dissimilar physical hw, etc. My application is for small clients with one physical server but also a workstation with enough ram and disk to become a hyper-v DR host if a server fails.
As per the design, the backup jobs configured within 30 days of the trial period has no restrictions on the features. After 30 days of the trial period, you must switch to either paid edition or free edition of the software.
If chosen the free edition, then you have to newly configure the backup jobs again by deleting the backup jobs configured during the trial period to avail the full-features limited to 3 VMs only.
To extend the trial period for your testing, and to report the bugs in the software, contact our support team at vembu-support@vembu.com.
