The processor socket or CPU socket or CPU slot in ESX(i) Server is simply called as socket and it will be located on the motherboard. Usually the CPU socket count equals to the number of physical processors on ESX(i) server and it depends on the model and configuration of the server. The CPU socket count may vary for each hardware manufacturers.

If the ESX(i) host has only one CPU socket, you can backup all VMs running in the host by purchasing one CPU socket license for Vembu VMBackup.
