As per the design of Free Edition, you cannot backup Hyper-V VMs to a Linux based Backup server using a distributed client (Vembu VMBackup client).
If you would like to backup your Hyper-V VMs using free edition, we recommend you to install Vembu BDR Server on a windows machine and configure the backup directly from the backup server.
