We have developed our own CBT driver track the incremental changes of Hyper-V VM, which support Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 and above(till latest Hyper-V Server 2016).

Yes, You can backup the Hyper-V VMs over WAN and CBT will also work, but during the full backup or the incremental backup data transfer, if your network got interrupted, the full backup or the incremental backup will again start from the first.

We always recommend transferring the backup data over LAN, but if you are planning to transfer data over WAN, make Sure you have an uninterrupted internet connection.
