What is Cloud?

Before discussing on today’s topic, here comes the basic necessity to know what is cloud about? Cloud is nothing but a storage platform, where all your data is stored online i.e it is stored on the internet computers, rather than installing them on your own one. It also means that you have an additional hard drive which can be accessed anywhere and anytime through the internet. The cloud rapidly reduces your storage on your own PC or workstation and helps to store the most important critical data with appreciable reliability.

Private Cloud vs Public Cloud

The term Private Cloud points out to Privacy, which enables organization or customers to relocate critical workloads and applications with elevated data security. The data stored beneath them are not accessed by the third party, rather they are handled by themselves which increases the capital investments in their own data centers, but apart from this, private clouds are typically known for their privacy, where your data will be safeguarded against threats. Predominantly, the private clouds are mostly run by the organizations. Virtualized compute storage and networking built on VCE Converged Infrastructure, Private Network Connections, Infrastructure Management Services, Cloud Control and Additional optional Managed services are the ingredients included in it.

Moving onto public cloud, public clouds are generally run by the service providers who host the services to many customers. These services may be PaaS, SaaS or IaaS. These clouds work on the utility model i.e the customers pay for what they actually use.The data centers in public clouds are conventionally managed by the service providers. Public clouds are generally more cost effective than private clouds. In general, there is an opinion that Public cloud is less secure, in which the data stored can be accessed by anyone.

Private Cloud or Public Cloud – Which is Better?

Opting for either private cloud or public cloud solely depends on some aspects such as data sensitivity, budget, nature of business etc. Date sensitivity is one of the most important factors that should be considered for optimization. Different organizations have different data that can be categorized into ‘more sensitive’ and ‘less sensitive data’. The most sensitive part opts for Private Cloud for its secured characteristics and less sensitive goes into Public Cloud in which your data could be hacked at some point in time. Though the data is encrypted when it reaches the public cloud, the path they travel from organization to the public cloud is not encrypted. The second aspect deals with that of the budget, the budget could be allotted based on the business you do. Private Cloud is something that elevates your budget since the organization has to buy all the servers required and pay to the staff handling the cloud. In Public Cloud scenario, it’s enough to pay for what you use in it. Moving on to the Nature of Business, it is also a factor that determines you to choose the appropriate cloud. There are several clouds offering many functionalities such as, If you need a software you need not want to invest on it, rather you can get it through Software as a service, likewise IaaS(Infrastructure as a service), PaaS(Platform as a service) also play a vital role in Business organizations. Choosing between Private or Public solely depends on the user requirements by considering the features of the individual ones. Or it is even better to prefer hybrid cloud which incorporates the attributes of both public and private cloud.
