  • Configuring physical image backup.
  • Download Flat-VMDK image file from backup.
  • Import it to your VMware host.

Configure physical image backup:

  •  Install Vembu BDR client on the machine which you would like to migrate to a virtual environment.
  •  Login to the client web console and then go to “Backup -> Disk Image Backup” page
  • Select the disks and drives you want to get backed up and proceed with the defaults.
  • Review the configurations and run the backup job.

Download Flat-VMDK image:

  • Now go to Vembu BDR backup server and login to the central console where all your backups are managed.
  • Go to List of Clients page and expand the client from which you need to get flat-VMDK image file.
  • You will be provided with a handful of restore options, among which select Restore option.

  • Select the version you want to restore(Timestamp) and click proceed to select disks.

  • Select the disks and click proceed selecting download format and Restore location.

  • You will be provided with multiple restore file formats such as VHD, VHDX, VMDK, VMDK-Flat and Raw. Select VMDK-Flat and choose restore location and review your configurations.

  • Once done reviewing, proceed with Restore Now option.

Import Flat-VMDK to VMware host:
Connect the vSphere or vCenter client, upload the Flat-VMDK file and create the virtual machine.
