As promised, here is the recorded video of the webinar title, “Granular Recovery in Exchange – Vembu StoreGrid 4.4”

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does StoreGrid 4.4 support Exchange in Office 365?

Vembu StoreGrid 4.4 does not currently support Office 365. It is in the roadmap and is due to be released in SP2 by early November.

What exactly do you mean by brick level restore? Can you elaborate on the maximum level of brick level restore that can be achieved with StoreGrid?

You can restore mails, mailboxes, folders, a particular user’s mails etc. You can also perform a Point in Time recovery.

What are the enhancements that we can expect in SP1 with respect to Exchange?

1. Client level integrity check.

2. Search option in EDB.

What does reversed synthetic full backup mean?

In reverse synthetic backups, the latest backed up data will be full data and the previous versions are delta, i.e incrementals. As a result, it is ‘forever synthetic’. So you don’t need additional full backups. This feature will be available in the next major upgrade.

Does the granular Exchange backup and recovery work with Exchange 2013?

Support for Exchange 2013 is in the roadmap and we will be releasing it in StoreGrid 4.4 SP2. We are also working on support for brick level restore in legacy versions like Microsoft Exchange 2003.

How do you suggest we cope with slow WAN speeds?

The following are the best practice if your Exchange backup is transferred over slower WAN connections to your backup server.

1 ) Configure the initial full backup to the local backup drive and then seed the backup data to the backup server. And then continue your incremental log backup/Synthetic Full backup transferred to your backup server.

2) You could also enable “Also keep a copy locally” for your Exchange backup. With this, you can rebuild your Exchange server immediately in disaster recovery case. In this case, you could also specify the local backup as any mountable drive/SAN/NAS .

3) Recommended backup schedule configurations for Exchange server:

Full backup : Yearly/Half Yearly full.

Synthetic full : Quarterly Synthetic.

Log backup: Daily incremental log.

Do join us for our upcoming webinars. We promise you that the take aways will be massive.

Is there any particular topic you would like us to schedule a webinar about?
