Backup Solution for Acropolis Hypervisor
Businesses are moving to virtualized data centers and hypervisors are becoming the core block of it. Acropolis hypervisor (AHV) is an integrated component of NUTANIX infrastructure stack which delivers powerful virtualization capabilities like high availability, scalability and security. There are chances that Virtual Machines (VM) in AHV environments can be liable to data corruption or disaster. To enable business continuity, it is necessary to protect the VMs in AHV environments through a backup and disaster recovery solution. Vembu offers VM level and guest level backup for the virtual machines in the Acropolis hypervisor environment.
VM-level Backup Solution
Vembu offers image level backup for all the Windows VM’s running on the AHV hypervisor. Vembu BDR Client for Microsoft Windows needs to be installed in each virtual machine and it creates an image of the entire machine which includes OS, applications and other data.
Full VM Backup – Backs up the entire virtual machine which includes operating system, applications and data in it.
Changed Block Tracking (CBT) – Vembu uses proprietary CBT Driver to track the changed blocks since the previous full backup.
Application-aware VM backups – VSS writers are used to create consistent snapshot during backup of highly transactional applications (Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint and Active Directory) and truncates the log after successful backup
Retention Policies – Basic and GFS retention policies helps to merge the multiple recovery points and remove the older backup data to save storage space.
Automated Backup Verification – To verify the integrity of the backups, the backed up VM’s will be automatically booted and the boot screen will be captured and mailed to the administrator.
Offsite Backup Copy – A redundant copy of the backed up data in the BDR server can be replicated to users own data center or to the Vembu cloud for disaster recovery purpose.
Instant Boot VM – Restore the backed up physical or virtual machines instantly on VMware, Hyper-V or KVM.
File Level Recovery – Individual files can be restored from the backed up VM without restoring the entire data.
Full VM Recovery – Backed up VM’s can be permanently restored to the same or different hypervisor.
Granular Application Recovery – Instantly recover individual application items from Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint and Active Directory.
VM migration (P2V and V2V) – Vembu helps to migrate the VMs from other hypervisors to VMware, Hyper-V or KVM and vice versa.

Guest-level Backup Solution
Vembu offers BDR clients to backup individual files, folders and applications from Windows, Linux, Mac VM’s running on Acropolis hypervisor.
File-level Backup – Supports file backup on all the flavors of Windows, Linux and Mac machines. Also, supports preconfigured folders such as My Documents, My Photos, Desktop, Browsers, etc.
Microsoft SharePoint Backup – Vembu provides backup for MS Sharepoint server and allows restore in the form of entire or individual site level, documents, lists, contacts. Vembu provides backup for MS Sharepoint server and allows the restore of the entire SharePoint sites or individual documents, lists and contacts.
Microsoft Exchange Server Backup – In case of critical situations, for complete recovery of mailboxes and system data, Exchange server backups are done. Vembu uses Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) API for consistent backup of all Microsoft applications.
Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Backup – To access up-to-date mailbox data even in the event of a failure, it is necessary to do Exchange Mailbox backup. Vembu Exchange Mailbox Plugin backs up all the data of a particular user (mailbox) or you can backup just a folder (like for example the inbox of a user) or a sub-folder (like for example, a sub-folder in the inbox).
Microsoft SQL Server Backup – Vembu provides an efficient backup for MS SQL server. Vembu uses VDI API to backup database(s) and then uploads the locally dumped file to the BDR backup server.
Microsoft Outlook Backup – Vembu provides backup and restore for MS outlook which includes all the mail folders, contacts, calendars and tasks associated with the Outlook account.
MySQL Database Backups – Vembu supports MySQL database backup and restore running on Windows and Linux machines.
