Configure Storage Location

This section describes the different Storage Locations that can be configured in StoreGrid.

Global Backup Data Storage Location

While installing StoreGrid you can specify the backup storage location to be used by StoreGrid. StoreGrid will use this location as the Storage location for all the clients and its internal database. You can modify this storage location from the "Server Settings" UI page. But note that modifying the "server settings" page will not change the existing clients' backup storage location nor it will change the StoreGrid internal database storage location.

Client Based Storage Location

In StoreGrid, each client under a group can be configured with a different backup location. By default all clients will use the same location as the Global Backup Data Storage Location. If a client is created manually, then you can provide a different backup location for the client. But you will never have to create a client manually in StoreGrid. Clients are created under a group automatically when the client backs up first time. So the clients will automatically use the Storage location configured globally for the Server. You can edit the backup location of the client using Edit Client Configuration. After update of the backup location the new backup schedules will backup to the newer location and the existing backup schedules will continue to backup to the older backup location.

StoreGrid Database Location

StoreGrid uses an embedded database which creates *.db files. By default the *.db files will be created under the Global Storage Location configured during installation. But if you change the Global Storage Location from the "Server Settings" UI Page after StoreGrid starts, then the database location will not be changed. It will still use the old location. The reason is that StoreGrid embedded database cannot move its *.db files to a new location when StoreGrid is running. If you want to change the database location to a new location, then you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Stop the StoreGrid server.

  2. Open the file SGConfiguration.conf.

  3. Edit the attribute Path to have the new storage location (Path = <New Storage Location>)

  4. Copy all the *.db, *.db.bak, *.db-journal files from the old location to the new location.

  5. Restart StoreGrid.
